Not So LOL Cats at the Wyoming County SPCA

Tonight, in a very special episode of Hoarders: this time, the cat hoarding may not be inside a house, but at the very facility expected to take care of them…

Nipping at the heels of the recent story of poor care and questionable euthanasia practices at the Niagara County SPCA comes news of a raid at the SPCA at Attica, NY in Wyoming county.

The Buffalo News reports that more than 230,000* cats were held at the “no-kill” facility. Some say it was also a “no adoption” facility and have likened the manager there to a hoarder.

“At best, they described her as a devoted animal lover who knew every cat by name and provided them all with veterinary care care but simply got overwhelmed by the numbers. At worst, they described her as a difficult personality who frequently turned down legitimate adoption offers and lost many volunteers and staffers through her own mismanagement. Police (and FBI, DA’s office, SPCA of Erie County, to name a few) raided the facility Wednesday. Allegations from the many volunteers who worked there previously are that the manager refused many an adoption of the little critters, which is not an new story in and of itself, as the Dogington Post (led by Arianna Ruffington?!) will attest to.

As the investigation continues, it seems like the region has to deal with the embarrassment of poor management and inhumane living conditions when it comes to furry creatures under the care of the SPCA (or at least some of it’s locations). Laugh Out Loud Cats? More like Shaking My Head Cats.

I'm ironing a kitten; your argument is invalid...

(* not really, more like 300 cats, who say this IS NOT SPARTA!)
